Gelo Manosa is an architect known for his design of incorporating traditional Bahay Kubo elements in a modern Filipino Homes. Even for his own house, he also drew inspiration from the layout, structure and designed of old-fashioned nipa huts. The architect owns a family home in Alabang where Filipino design influence can be seen even from the outside of the house.
Just like the traditional Bahay Kubo, the house has triangular roof awnings that help provide shade and protection. In the past, trees around the home and sunshades on the roof would protect a Bahay Kubo from the scorching heat of the sun. Gelo also used trees and sunshades for a cool and breezy living area.
The following are pictures from Filipino house of architect Gelo to inspire us to treasure our Filipino houses in spite of the modern influence.
