An alleged illegal recruiter who lure their victims with promised jobs in Japan was nabbed in an entrapment operation on Thursday in Baclaran, Parañaque. The Philippine National Police-CIDG arrested Carolina Sareno, an alleged member of the Amor Baruelo illegal recruitment syndicate.
Police conducted the operation against Sareno and Baruelo following the complaints of victim "Rea".
According to Police Supt. Roque Merdegia said Rea and other victims were asked to pay P50,000 for their placement fee, medical fee, and processing fee for fake hotel and factory jobs in Japan .
After verifying, Rea discovered that the suspects are not licensed by the Philippine Overseas Employment Administration to recruit overseas workers.
Furthermore, she also discovered that there are pending arrest warrants against Baruelo.
During the entrapment operation, only Sareno showed up to receive marked money from the victim. A follow-up operation was immediately conducted for the arrest of Baruelo but, according to Merdegia, they failed to arrest her.
Sereno is facing illegal recruitment and estafa charges.
(ATCU), the Amor Baruelo group according to the PNP-CIDG Anti-Transnational Crimes Unit, is suspected to be one of the largest illegal recruitment syndicates operating in the country with over 3,000 victims nationwide.
