To have a house for families back home is one of the main goals of Overseas Filipino Workers (OFWs). After long years of working, some OFWs achieve this dream while others continue to strive to make this dream come true.
But for a 45-year old domestic helper, the realization of this dream comes unexpectedly when she received a generous gift from her thankful employer.
The domestic helper identified as Dina Tenerife Celo who receives Dh23,000 or P320,000 gift from her employer Melissa McPike. Her employer is an American who acquired Emirati citizenship by marriage.
With the help of her employer, Celo’s dream to have a house and lot will come true after 20 years of working in Abu Dhabi. Aside from the money she received from her employer to buy a home lot, house construction will also be financed by McPike.
The two-bedroom house is registered Celos’s son Ryan. It will be constructed in their hometown in Camarines Sur. Celo is expected to return to the Philippines this January for a year-long leave.

She will be accompanied by her employer’s son Saeed Al Muhaire, 26 to help her in the construction of the house.
According to McPike, buying a house for Celo is the least she can do after the Filipina did so much for her children. Celo took care of McPike’s children at Khalifa City from 1998 to 2000 and after she finished the contract and work in another job, her employer hired her again in 2014.
She describes Celo as a trustworthy to the point that she left her debit card with her, adding that the Filipina was now part of their family and is known to her two sons as “Aunty.”
McPike even promises Celo to visit her in the Philippines if their house is already completed.
