Newly appointed OWWA Deputy Administrator Arnel Arevalo Ignacio together with Administrator Hans Leo Cacdac started to openly communicate with the OFWs as part of their effort to know the real sentiments and problems of the Overseas Filipino Workers (OFWs). Ignacio being an OFW said that he can understand the OFWs better.
Both OWWA officers gladly accommodated the queries from the OFWs. However, DA Ignacio advised them to ask their office or any concerned office such as POLO-OWWA directly and not to seek advice from their peers if they want correct actions.
Aside from answering the questions from OFWs, they also provided contact numbers and information that the OFWs can use should they have any concerns. They also explained OWWA programs which can be helpful for the OFWs such as EDLP or the Enterprise Development and Loan Program.
For the EDLP, the requirements are:
—Certificate of Enhanced Entrepreneurial Development Training or EEDT
—Proof of repatriation or return to the Philippines

As for the many requirements, Admin Cacdac advised the group borrowers to tie up with a person who can provide collateral to further aid them for the approval of their loan. With regards to the lengthy process and numbers of requirements, Admin Cacdac disclosed that there may be a possibility of a collateral-free loan program for the OFWs in the future through the newly launched OFW Bank. He did not elaborate further but he mentioned that there will be requirements in availing the loan.
Administrator Cacdac mentioned that the release of OWWA rebate for OFWs who had been members of OWWA and never had availed or claimed any OWWA programs and benefits is expected on the first quarter of this year.
As to the proximity of OWWA regional offices which OFW members find very far, OWWA is planning to put provincial offices which can possibly happen starting this year, according to Admin Hans Cacdac.
OFW Dependents Scholarship Program (OFWDSP) – Scholarships consisting of a maximum of Php 20,000.00 assistance per school year leading to a bachelors or associate degree in a state college or university. To avail this, OFW parents must have a basic monthly salary of not more than US$600.00.

DA Arnel Ignacio appeal to the OFWs to save their anger and rants in approaching OWWA to help resolve their issues and concerns because there is nobody at OWWA that does not want to help the OFWs. Understanding is important for the harmonious relationship between OWWA and its members.
