Starting in April this year, the Japanese government will start issuing two new types of visa for new Filipino applicants who wish to work in the country in connection with the current labor shortage. Japan said that it needs around 300,000 to 350,000 foreign workers starting this year to fill in the job vacancies in many sectors.
For Filipinos who want to work in Japan, there are two very important things you need to prepare as of now. First, the technical skills and second the language proficiency test. Every Filipino applicant should take and passed those two test to be qualified for any Japan jobs.
According to the Philippine Overseas Employment Administration (POEA), Filipino workers searching for work in Japan either can apply for Visa Type 1 or Visa Type 2.
A Visa Type 1 allows OFWs to work in Japan for five years without bringing with them their families.
A Visa Type 2 allows OFWs — mainly highly skilled ones like nurses and engineers — to apply for residency status and bring with them their families.
For both visa types, applicants must first pass skills and language proficiency tests. Job vacancies for foreign workers in Japan are mainly from health care, construction and food service sector.
