It is high time that we recognize the efforts of mothers in every households according to House Bill 8875 authored by Albay Rep. Joel Sarte Salceda.
In the proposed bill, it says that all housemakers who only stay at home taking care of her children and spouse should have a salary.
Out of 12 million Filipinos, 11.2 million are females who are considered unemployed because they do not receive any salary and act only as a housekeeper.
In the same data, 4.168 million of them have children below 12 years old while 1.790 million of which are confirmed poor.
Salceda, a known economist, said that it is time to pay attention to women with children below 12 years of age and those who belong to the poverty line and give monthly salary of P2,000 until their children reach over 12 years old.
Under the proposed bill, the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) will determine the beneficiaries and enforce the policies.
According to Salceda, the program will need P35 Billion, P32 Billion of which will be received by married housewives while P3 Billion will be given to single-moms, widow, separated and others.
