Filipino English teachers are in need in Thailand under its “English for All” program. In the meeting between the Department of Education (DepEd) Secretary Leonor Briones and the Education Minister of Thailand, the country wants to hire an initial 200 English teachers from the Philippines. This is because the Philippines is known to be an English-speaking country.
According to Margarita Consolacion Ballesteros, of International Cooperation Office of the Department of Education, they perceive Filipino teachers as enthusiastic, smart, know how to teach and speak the Engish language the way they want it.
Ballesteros said there are 13,000 to 14,000 Filipinos in Thailand that work as English teachers but not all are English teachers by profession. Many of these Filipinos she said went to Thailand as a tourist.
Under English for All Program, Filipinos who will be English teachers in Thailand will be protected by two governments. In line with this, the Philippine Overseas Employment Administration (POEA) and the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) will lay-out policies for those who are interested in working in Thailand.
Filipino English teachers that will be hired will be deployed in the provinces of Chonburi and Rayong in Thailand to teach in elementary or high schools. It said that Filipinos has an edge when it comes in teaching the English language because of our capacity not only in speaking but also in writing the language!
So heads up to those who are planning to work in Thailand as English teachers! This is one of the opportunities that you should be prepared. But keep in mind that the hiring has not started yet. So be careful of illegal recruitment. For the meantime, the following are jobs approved by the POEA to Thailand as of March 2019!
