Starting Next Month, Japan May Need 100,000 Filipino Workers!

This is great news for Filipinos who want to work and live in Japan! The “Land of the Rising Sun” will start hiring thousands of foreign workers to combat the worsening labor shortage in the country. The good thing is jobs up to 100,000 Japan jobs may be opened to qualified Filipino workers.

According to the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) Secretary Silvestre Bello III, 100,000 job vacancy is a part of the 350,000 jobs in Japan that will be open to foreign workers.

Filipinos are being favored to be given at least 100,000 jobs or 30 percent of the vacant jobs.

A memorandum of understanding (MOU) between the DOLE and representative of Japan’s ministries of justice, foreign affairs, health, labor and welfare, and national policy agency will be signed on March 19, 2019. Bello explains that the needed labor skills will be laid down on that MOU.

According to reports, Filipinos may apply for work under the following sectors;

  • Health care
  • Building maintenance
  • Food services
  • Industrial Machinery
  • Electronics
  • Food Manufacturing
  • Agriculture
  • Hospitality
  • Construction
  • Shipbuilding
  • Fisheries

Interested applicants need to pass the technical and language skills examination.
Foreign skilled workers in Japan will be given a residence status as specified skilled workers of the government.

At present, here are the job orders approved by the Philippine Overseas Employment Administration (POEA) to Japan as of March 2019.
