An overseas Filipino worker (OFW) was apprehended by Bureau of Immigration officers at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport. according to the report, the suspect posed as a guardian of a child whom she would accompany to visit the kid’s mother in Macau.
BI-Travel Control and Enforcement Unit Chief Erwin Ortanez said that this is a new scheme of syndicates who are illegally recruiting Filipinos who would want to work abroad. They are posing as “guardian” of minors to accompany them abroad.
The nabbed passenger was a former household worker in Saudi Arabia. She did not finish her contract there for an unknown reason came back to the Philippines. An immigration official said that her trip to Macau was sponsored by a certain Lucille M. Capoy to accompany her daughter but later found out that the former OFW is set to work as a “waitress” in Macau.
The woman, named “Jacky” admitted that she is not related to the minor but was able to get a travel permit from the Department of Social Welfare and Development to accompany the minor. The victim admitted that she already paid a sum of P13,000 to “Capoy’s” and agreed to pose as the minor’s guardian in the attempt to outwit the immigration officer at the airport.
